【Abstract】 This paper studies the characteristics of the intra-video skewness by a trace-based analysis.The analysis results show that the intra-video skewness probably leads to serious performance decline in case of traditional data placement in streaming servers.In order to solve this problem,the authors propose two novel data placement strategies.The first one is Symmetrical Pair Scheme.It can relieve the negative impact of the intra-video skewness to a great extent without extra system overhead.The second one is Symmetrical Replication Pair Scheme derived from the first method.It trades a little redundant data for better system performance.The analysis shows that streaming servers with the novel data placement strategies can obtain obvious system performance improvement.更多还原
