改进光纤PMD的光纤旋转技术
Fiber Spinning Technique for Improving PMD of the Fiber
【摘要】 分析了偏振模色散(PMD)及其不稳定性对系统传输距离与传输速率的影响。介绍了光纤旋转技术,采用正弦旋转技术可有效降低光纤的双折射并增加模式耦合。研究了采用正弦旋转技术制备的旋转光纤的PMD稳定性,旋转光纤成缆后的PMD典型值可控制在0.04 ps/km,与非旋转光纤相比,旋转光纤的PMD具有很好的温度稳定性与成缆稳定性。
【Abstract】 The impacts of PMD and its unstability on the transmission speed and transmission distance of an optical communications system are analyzed.A fiber spinning technique is introduced,the sinusoidal-rate spinning can effectively decrease the birefringence and increase the mode-coupling of the fiber.The stability characteristic of the spun fiber which is made with the sinusoidal-rate spinnig technique is studied.The typical PMD of the spun fiber after cabling can be controlled withing 0.04 ps/km.Comparing with the un-spun fiber,the spun fiber are much more stable against temperature variation and cabling process.
