光波导位相调制技术产生多波长光源
Optical waveguide phase modulation technology for generating multi-wavelength optical source
【摘要】 用Matlab软件模拟分析了高频光波导电光位相调制器的输出光谱特性。结果表明,在一定频率的微波源作用下,单色光通过光波导位相调制器后会产生光频谱展宽,展宽光谱中包括中心波长及各阶光边波带。随位相调制深度加大,边波带数目增多,光谱展宽增大;位相调制深度为3.3时,10dB展宽光谱中含边波带数为8个。实验制作了光波长1.55μm、微波频率10GHz的铌酸锂电光波导位相调制器;输出光谱中可清楚观察到正负三阶等频率间隔的边波带,即可实现七路光源输出,由此提出并验证了光波导位相调制技术用作多波长光源的可能性。利用位相调制器的光频谱展开得到多波长光源,具有成本低、易实现、促进系统集成等优点,有良好的应用前景。
【Abstract】 The output spectrum of a high-frequency electro-optic waveguide phase modulator is simulated and analyzed using Matlab software. Results show that when an optical waveguide phase modulator is acted by a microwave source with certain frequency, a homogeneous light will get its optical spectrum broadening after passing through the modulator. The output spectrum contains a central wavelength and many optical sidebands. The number of optical sidebands in the output spectrum also increases as the phase modulation depth increases, and the optical spectrum is expanded. When the phase modulation depth is 3.3, the number of optical sidebands contained in the 10dB dropped spectrum is 8. A phase modulator with working wavelength 1.55μm and microwave frequency 10GHz is fabricated and measured in the experiment. Optical sidebands with equal frequency intervals are observed in the output spectrum and the third-order sidebands can be observed clearly. The possibility for the optical waveguide phase modulation technology to generate a multi-wavelength optical source is presented and proved.
