Progress on Swine Hepatitis E
【Abstract】 Swine hepatitis E is a newly identified disease that is caused by hepatitis E virus(HEV).HEV is a single-strand RNA virus without an envelope. The genome of HEV is approximate 7.2 kb to 7.4 kb.The presence of HEV RNA and antibodies in pigs has been demonstrated in many countries.Higher anti-HEV titer was observed in people who contacted with pigs. Also in some coutries, the HEV strain isolated from the pigs was found to share a highly identify with that from humans in the same region. It has been conseuqently hypothesized that swine hepatis E is a potentically zoonotic agent and swine might act as an animal reservoir in the epidemiology of HE in humans, thus putting public health, xenogenic organ transplantation and food safety at a certain risk.
