侧边抛磨光纤的光传输特性研究

【摘要】 基于有限差分光束传播法,对侧边抛磨光纤的光传输特性进行了模拟计算。给出了应用自行研制的侧边光纤抛磨机的侧边抛磨光纤的制作方法,并研究了几个影响侧边抛磨光纤光传输特性的参量。实验表明,侧边抛磨光纤的抛磨面与纤芯的剩余厚度d越小,光功率衰减越大,对涂敷材料的折射率变化的灵敏度越大。在抛磨区域浸在折射率约为1.495的折射率液体的情况下,当d<5μm时衰减明显增大。抛磨区长度越长,光功率衰减越大;抛磨表面越粗糙,光功率衰减也越大。

【Abstract】 Based on beam propagation method,analysis and simulation on optical propagation characteristics of side-polished fiber have been made.A kind of fiber side-polished machine and the manufacturing process have been reported.These factors that affect optical propagation characteristics of side-polished optical fiber,such as the remaining thickness d from the polished surface to the core of side-polished fiber,the length of polished area,the roughness of the polished surface and the materials covered on the side-polished area have been investigated.The experiments show that the less d is,the more the loss of optical power will be,and the more sensitive to the refractive index of the materials covered on the polished area.When the side-polished area is put into the liquid with refractive index of 1.495 and the remaining thickness is less than 5μm,the loss of optical power propagating in the side-polished optical fiber is obviously increased.It is also shown that the loss of optical power is increased as the length of polished area or the roughness of the polished surface increases.
