【Abstract】 This essay illustrates the implication of Tess＇ each important jourmey in Tess of D＇Urberville from the angles of symbolism and the relationship between motion and statics and discloses their connotations in her walking and motion. Tess＇ wanderings and motion play a crucial role in the structural arrangement of the whole nouel and the development of plots. They penetrate her whole life, symbolizing her life experience at different stages as well as reflecting the process of the maturity of her character and psychology of how she turns from an innocent girl into a mature young wife of going through all the vicissitudes of life.
