【Abstract】 Published in 1913, Sons and Lovers is Lawrence’s first important novel. It offers a realistic picture of the mining life in the Midlands where the author spent his childhood. Largely autobiographical, Sons and Lovers depicts the conflicts between a coarse father who is crude but full of vitality, and a refined , prudish mother. The major characteristic of Lawrence’s novel is that he combined social criticism with psychological exploration in his novel writing. Six pairs of relations are discussed in this paper from the perspectives of surface level and deep level to illustrate the themes of Sons and Lovers.更多还原
