【Abstract】 Environmental impact of coal development in the mining area was assessed. A hierarchal index system and a fuzzy comprehensive assessment method were established for evaluation of the environmental quality of the mining area. The environmental quality of the Yongzhou mining area was assessed using this method and major factors affecting the environmental were identified.
