【Abstract】 This paper presents Kinfolk as the first novel by Pearl S. Buck to focus on the Chinese intellectuals and the predicament they faced after returning from abroad. In this novel, Pearl Buck portrays two kinds of Chinese intellectuals: theorists and practitioners. The characters stand at the crossroads: in their life’s journey they are continuing to search for their ethnic roots and sense of identity. This paper also intends to show that Kinfolk can be regarded as one of the few literary works to write about the experience of Chinese Americans in the first half of the 20th century. 更多还原
