【Abstract】 Among the liberals in modern China, Zhang Jun-mai was one of the few who directly paid close attention to Chinas modernization. Zhangs conception of modernization touched upon many aspects such as the foundation of a national-country and the construction of polities, economy and culture. All along he considered that the formation of modern consciousness, which means the modernization of the people, was the basis and premise of a nations modernization. However, Zhang neglected the basic reform of the society. Zhang made every endeavor to seek a “third” road to modernization, which was different from both the Anglo-American model and the Soviet-Russian model. But actually his third road didnt exceed the Anglo-American model. And what he pursued was nothing but the Anglo-American bourgeois modernization.更多还原
