【Abstract】 Present and future developments of special hospitals are discussed from: appropriate, dynamic balance between various types and sizes of hospitals; specialization of medicine from seven specialties one hundred years ago to about 64 specialty areas in 1970s and to present ultraspecialization trend; alongside of an holistic approach, there is an emphasis shift from whole patient and whole organs to diseases of cells and molecules; how to take into account the generalist’ s capability to care for special diseases and the specialist’ s ability to care for general medical problems; facilitate special hospitals to use more pertinent, new and high - tech methods to ensure better match of the needs of patient and the services rendered.更多还原
