【Abstract】 IP and ATM are the core technologies of existing communication networks.In this paper, their developing trends of competition and cooperation are indicated. This paper first discusses the difference of ideas, targets, techniques and the market competition between IP and ATM. Then IP over ATM, the cooperative result of IP technology and ATM technology is introduced, emphasizes to the motivity and model between IP and ATM, so does the basic principle, development and application of IP over ATM.
