【Abstract】 This article shows that the two characters, Li Wang and Miao Yu, were compared with each other by Chao Xueqing purposely in A Dream of Red Mansions. They were comparable clause both of them had refined manners and distinguished elegance, but the reality made them common and vulgar, made them dis- card their sentiments and natural instincts, and made them despair of life.
