【Abstract】 New vertical sieve tray is a kind of new vaporliquid contact apparatus for heat or mass transfer such as distillation or absorption apparatus in the chemical industry. The contact structure comprises cylindrical walls surrounding gasflow openings in the trays and the wall is secured to the trays and has apertures at a lower portion thereof. A perforated cylinder and a cover are provided atop of the cylindrical wall. Liquid falling from a plate is blown up by the ascending gas or vapor to form vaporliquid mixing phase flow, and the flow is then inverted by a top cover and passes through holes of a vertically provided perforated plate to be separated into vapor and liquid. Vapor and liquid contact is performed during the vaporliquid mixing phase flow and while passing through the small holes of the performed plate. By the research on the hydrodynamics of several vertical sieve trays differing in the top structure, a new improved cap (turbination cap) is proposed. It has characteristics of lower pressure drop and lower entrainment. Its wet plate pressure drop related equation (multicover system) can be expressed as: ht=2 047ρgρ1u2<sub>02g+0.81h1
