【Abstract】 The great success of the natural science in the West has brought about the western philosophy including the epistemology in aesthetics. The epistemology in the western aesthetics is reflected during the conflict betw een the empirical aesthetics and the rational aesthetics. Firstly, both the empi rical aesthetics and the reational aesthetics are strongly know-ledge-oriented. Secondly, both the empirical aesthetics and the rational aesthetics stick to the rational means of understanding. Thirdly, both the empirical aesthetics and the reational aesthetics propose the logical scope of understanding.
