【Abstract】 GUO Song tao put forward the diplomatic thinking of “taking peace as the principal thing” on the basis of full understanding of “domestic and foreign conditions.” This is the origin of Chinas rational diplomatic thinking in modern times. It not only promoted the change of peoples traditional thought on foreign affairs and worked as foundation and enlightenment in modern Chinas diplomatic history, but also enlightened people as to knowing the west and learning from the west.
