【Abstract】 The study used Alex Inkeles’s OM--12 (revisededition) measure and investigated 774 primary andmiddle school students living in the city and the countryside of Chongqing, Lanzhou and Guangzhou, andthe states of development of modernity of their socialconcept. The results indicated that the modernity ofconcept of younger students in China reached themedium level. The environmental differences of livinghad a great influence on the modernity of concept ofprimary and junior middle school students, but not onsenior middle school students.
