【Abstract】 As a Unix style rising computer operating system, Linux grow up very soon recently. It is its good characterishcs that make it come up with pride such as multitask, virtual memory space management with complete protect model, multi-user support, excellent performance of TCP/IP drivers, completely support for 32 or 64 bits applications. In this article, we have shown a detail description on the origin,the development and the characteristics of the Linux operating system. We have given some evaluation on some of its functions based on the analyzing of the structure of Linux. We also have shown some application field of this operating system.
