【Abstract】 This article unfolds itself by delving into the translation of Long, the Chinese totem, and deals with the untranslatability and translatability of cultures with emphasis on the latter. It analyses the respective prerequisites for their existence-the regionalistic and transregionalistic characters of culture, expounds on the relative and dynamic nature of the two notions and the possibility of converting untranslatability into translatability under certain conditions.
