【Abstract】 This paper addresses some important issues in current population studies in China. The author examines the reasons why comprehensive, qualitative and theoretical studies are far less than the analytical, quantitative and empirical ones. Three phases are distinguished in the development of population research in China, and the future trends in the development are discussed.
