【Abstract】 With the transformation of the Internet to a commercial infrastructure, the development of Internet need satisfy the requirementof providing differentiated services to users as well as the demand of high bandwidth. In this paper, the router architecture that supports thesetwo trends is described, and an overview of implementations of router mechanisms including switching fabric. packet classification, packetscheduling and buffer management is provided.
