【Abstract】 This article presents a set of techniques of growing red Chinese toona ( Toona sinensis ) for its young bud shoots as a new table dish. Root-sprout seedlings approximately 0.8-1.0 m high are planted in late autumn or early winter in a ditch of 1 m wide and 0.8 m deep with an espacement of 1 m by 1.5 m or 1 m by 1+2 m. At the time of planting 0.1 kg of TC, a soil modifier, is applied to each seedling, and soil is used to cover the seedling to protect it against cold injury. A combination of N, P, K, Ca and compost organic manure is adopted and foliar application recommended. When the branching shoots comes out about 30 cm, tip pruning is applied and a shoot-inducer spread on the cut. Harvest begins when the young shoot is about as long as 10-20 cm; this can significantly raise both the shoot yield and quality. In hilly and upland sites intercropping toona with peanut, citron daylily ( Hemerocallis citrina ), or honeysuckle ( Lonicera japonica ) can greatly promote the economic benefit.
