浅谈英语否定句的几种用法

【摘要】 <正> 英语中的否定句分部分否定和全部否定。如果按照汉语表达习惯去推想,不免会造成以是为非或以非为是的理解性错误。这里归纳一些现象进行比较,以期引起注意。 一、部分否定 如果句子中含有all,bath,every,always,each,whole等词,not所否定的不是全部,而是部分。例如:All that glitters is not gold.All is not gold that glitters.闪光的未必都是金子。 All these foreigners don’tspeek English.=Not all these foreiners speak English;some speak English,other don’t.这些外国人并非都讲英语。而不是“所有这些外国人都不讲英语”。如果非要表达这个意见,英语应用"None of the fore,griefs speak English.” All the answers are not right.=Not d1 the answers are right.答案未必全对。 Botho of the dictionaries are not helpful,Not both of the dictionanes are helpgil.这两本辞典并非都有用。 Idon’t know both“them.我不认识他们俩。=Ionly know ont ofthem.
