【Abstract】 The article surveys the field of optical science and engineering, and they define the technical scope. We think optics is a pervasive enabler: it is essential, but typically it plays a supporting role in a larger system. We report the trend and development of optical technology in six fields, foresee development in optics that will change our Lives in ways that today we can hardly even contemplate.
