时空系统序号法标本编号方法

TAXONOMY-AGE-PROVINCE-SEQUENCE(TAPS) NUMBERING METHOD FOR SPECIMEN REGISTRATION

【摘要】 化石标本的积累使得标本的编号不断增加、增长,在给表面积较小的标本标注标本编号时难度也越来越大。因此需要一套精简标本编号长度的方法。时空系统序号法(Taxonomy-Age-Province-Sequence numbering method)(缩写TAPS)标本号编号方法便是标本编号的第一位用大小写英文字母或数字来表示标本的经典纲级分类和纪级时代分布,第二位从51个不会在手写时搞混的大小写英文字母和阿拉伯数字中挑选出34个来表示我国34个省、自治区、直辖市和特别行政区产地,第三位以后从51个不会在手写时搞混的阿拉伯数字和大小写英文字母中挑选出一个来表示标本的序号。这样可使三位标本号的理论容量达到47×34×51=81 498个,第四位以后每增加一位增容51倍,从而缩减标本编号的位数,并且使标本编号包含标本的省级产地、纪级时代及经典纲级分类的信息。

【Abstract】 With the accumulation of vertebrate fossil specimens,the registered specimen number is elongating,and it consequently makes the number writing on the specimens more difficult due to the space limit on the specimens.A space saving numbering method is therefore needed to adapt the situation.Taxonomy-Age-Province-Sequence(TAPS)numbering method is proposed here.According to this method,the first place is one of 47 capital and small letters and Arabian digits excluding those of confusing letters with hand writing representing the classic taxonomy at class level combined with geological age at period level,e.g.Q means mammals from the Quaternary.The second place is one of Arabian digits or both capital and small letters representing the provenance of the specimen at provincial level(total 34),e.g.A means Anhui Province.And from the third place on,it is one of 51 of Arabian digits and both capital and small letters,excluding those of confusing letters with hand writing,representing the sequence of the registered specimens.The theoretic capacity of the specimen numbers with three places is as large as 47×34×51 in this way.And the capacity will increase 51 times with every addition of one place afterwards.The length of registered numbers will therefore be very short but very informative.
