【Abstract】 Fucoxanthin as the main carotenoid component of brown algae performs the role of light-harvesting mainly.The excit- ed state dynamics of fucoxanthin in benzene and chloroform were studied by femto-second absorption spectroscopy,steady-state absorption and emission,and near infrared emission spectroscopies.The strong coupling of the lowest singlet state (S1) and the intramolecular charge transfer state (SCT) gives the mixing S1/SCTstate characteristic of the special red-extending and multi vi- brational structure of Sn←S1 excited state absorption in visible spectral region and the wide emission in near infrared region which is observed for the first time.The excited state dynamics of fucoxanthin was discussed based on the spectroscopic results and by assistance with the theoretical calculation and electrochemical studies.
