Hydrothermal synthesis and structure characterization of the organic templated metal iodates

【Abstract】 We initiated a study of the hydrothermal synthesis of inorganic-organic hybrid materials in the system of M/I/O and synthesized the first organic template metal iodate. Compound 1 has infinite 1D Mo-O-Mo chains, and the adjacent chains are joined with bridging iodates into 2D slabs. Further, the slabs are connected with protoned water and 4.4’-bpy molecules through very strong hydrogen bond interaction into a 3D pseudo-structure. Compound 2 was a simple zero-dimensional cluster consisted of [(Mo2O5(IO3)4]2- anions. Charge neutrality was achieved by the protoned pyridine cations. Compound 3 contained one-dimensional anionic ribbons constructed from [UO7] pentagonal bipyramids linked together through bridging iodate groups. Diprotoned 4,4’-bpy cations served as charge counters. These studies confirmed our hypothesis of using iodate pyramidal to construct inorganic framework in the presence of organic template, and extended the field of organic-inorganic hybrid materials.
