【Abstract】 The cholinergic hypothesis provides the rational for the treatment of AD by enhancing ACh in the brain. Some AChE inhibitors have been found effects on central outward potassium currents. In the study, we investigated the effects of BCP on electric eel AChE by UV and IK and IA in rat hippocampal neurons by using whole-cell patch-clamp technique. The IC50 value of BCP towards IK and IA is slightly higher than that of BCP towards AChE on electric eel. It suggests that BCP appear to be more sensitive to AChE than to these two kinds of currents and AChE could be major action site of BCP. However, potassium channels might still be other new targets for AChE inhibitors besides AChE.
