Removal Organic Pollutants from Aqueous Solution Using New Water Treatment Technique of Ozone-Biological Activated Carbon Fiber

【Abstract】 Ozone-Biological Activated Carbon Fiber (O3-BACF), as new technique of water treatment, was investigated for organics removal from water. Microbes were incubated on ACF by means of flow circulation to form BACF. The water was oxidated by ozone before treatment. The resultant O3-BACF bed was used to remove organics from slightly polluted water. After treatment, the average UV254 removal efficiency attained as high as 90%, the turbidities are near to zero and CODMn was lower than 3mg/L. In order to assess the performance, the same experiments were carried out for Biological Activated Carbon Fiber (BACF) bed. As a result, the performance of O3-BACF is much better than that of BACF. It suggests that O3-BACF as an advanced technique has great application potential for drinking water treatment.
