【Abstract】 The acetalization and ketalization of various aldehydes and ketones w ith glycerol using AlCl3 as catalyst were studied. Effect of reaction time ,mole ratio of reactants and amount of catalyst on yield of Acetals (acetals) were investigated. Results show that AlCl3 was an efficient catalyst for the acetalization and ketalization with high conversion and selectivity in mild conditions. The optimum reaction condition: molar ratio of aldehydes and ketones to glycerol was 1:1.5, catalyst amount was 2g/1mol aldehydes or ketones, reaction time was 2h,Under that condition, conversion was over 85% and selectivity was over 95%.
