任意重复频率低抖动半导体激光脉冲的产生
Generation of Low Jitter Laser Diode Pulses at Arbitrary Repetition Rates using External Pulse Injection

【摘要】 本文报道了一种产生任意重复频率的低抖动增益开关半导体激光器超短光脉冲的新方法。利用一个增益开关半导体激光器作为外部注入种子源来降低另一个增益开关半导体激光器的时间抖动,当两个激光器的驱动源同步时,外种子脉冲的注入时刻与光脉冲的重复频率无关。当改变注入激光脉冲的波长时,还可实现波长在一定范围内调谐的动态单模输出。实验中用一个增益开关DFB激光器作为外部注入种子源来降低增益开关FP半导体激光脉冲的时间抖动,相位噪声测量结果表明,在外脉冲注入下,增益开关F-P激光器的时间抖动从1.45ps降低至0.86ps,在1MHz内的时间抖动小于300fs。同时数值模拟与实验测量均发现降低抖动的注入时间窗口仅为30ps~50ps,因此精确控制外光脉冲的注入时刻非常重要。同时实验研究了光脉冲宽度、边模抑制比及时间抖动与注入脉冲平均功率的关系。
【Abstract】 A new set-up to generate low jitter single mode laser pulses with arbitrary repetition rates using a gainswitched DFB laser diode for a injection seeding source of a second gain-switched FP laser was demonstrated. A reduction of timing jitter from ~1.45ps to ~0.86ps has been achieved, and the timing jitter is less than 300fs in the 10Hz~1MHz. Since the two laser diodes were synchronized, the low jitter diode laser pulse is frequency independent. The wavelength of the single mode pulses was tunable when the wavelength of injection pulse was changed. A injection window, which is about 30ps~50ps, is found experimentally, and an increase of the FP laser pulse jitter for medium time delay differences between the DFB laser pulse and the FP laser pulse is caused by the jitter of the DFB laser pulse, as it has been shown by numerical simulations and experimental measurement. The variation of pulsewidth, optical side-mode suppression ratio (SMSR) of the generated pulse train in dependence of the average injection power is also investigated.
