茂名高岭土矿高岭石的矿物学特征及其涂布性能

【摘要】 茂名高岭土矿的高岭石,有序度高,品粒细小(<2微米),沿 a、b 轴横向连结,无书册状、蠕虫状的大集晶,SiO2/Al2O3值接近高岭石的理论值, Fe3O3、TiO2等杂质含量低于0.5%,并可加工分离,为当前有开发前景的优质涂布原料.

【Abstract】 Maoming Kaolin deposit in Guangdong province is a kind of sandy kaolin of sedimentary type which is a fundamental area of producing cdating materials of good quality for paper manufacture in China.Kaolins are widely occured and have a great reserves which are easy for mining because of more shallow buried depth and of greater econormie value.The excellent coating properties of the kaolins are close related to the minera- logical properties of koalinite of the deposit. The mineral composition of the kaolin deposit consists mainly of kao- linite and quartz with a small amount of illite and very poor content of other minerals.The content of quartz is about 75-80% and of kaolinite is 15-20% on the average in the parent ores.Chemical analysis of the sam- ples(<180 mesh)shows that kaolins have,on the average,SiO2 of 61%, Al2O3 of 27%,the ratio of SiO2/Al2O3 is as high as 3.9 and the content of kaolinites is more than 61%.The coating kaolins(kaolinites less than 2μm are about 90% ) have a content of Al2O3 of 38%. The mineralogical characteristics of kaolinites have been stuied by the methods of XRD,IR,DTA,and SEM,which indicates that they belong to the ordered 1T type triclinic kaolinites having small pseudohexagonal platic or long platic crystal forms and grains of aggregates often less than 2μm.These properties gave the kaolins a chance to become coating mate- rials of good quality for paper manufacture.The contents of Fe and Ti are main factors affecting the natural whiteness of paper coating materi- als.For three districts of Maoming kaolin deposit,the contents of Fe and Ti are less than 0.5% respectively,thus the coating materials have higher natural whiteness. The study shows that the high order of kaolinites,small crystals and good platic forms of Maoming kaolins are the main factors making the kaolins become the high quality coating materials for paper manufac- ture.
