闪烁材料研究进展

【摘要】 综述了闪烁材料的研究发展的3个阶段:第一阶段,早期随着伦琴发现X射线出现了闪烁体CaWO4。第二阶段,随着光电倍增管的发展和萘的闪烁现象出现Hofstadter研制出铊激发NaI闪烁体。第三阶段,随着高能物理上精确量热技术和医学成像高的光输出技术需求闪烁材料进入大复兴阶段。总结了闪烁体的主要性能:透明性、光输出、发光效率、精细的时间分辨率、探测效率和灵敏度、良好的能量分辨能力、X射线阻止本领、衰减速度和余辉、辐照损伤、温度效应、材料的可获得性等。介绍了几种重要闪烁材料:陶瓷闪烁体、玻璃闪烁体和塑料闪烁体等,指出研制高性能闪烁陶瓷材料来逐步取代目前广泛使用的单晶闪烁材料和玻璃闪烁材料是研究闪烁体目前重要的研究方向。
【Abstract】 A review is presented on scintillator research and development. The discovery of scintillator materials may be divided into three periods . The first period included the earliest scintillator: CaWO4 first used in the year following Rontgen’s discovery of X-rays . The development of the photomultiplier tube and the discovery of scintillation in naphthalene led to a second period that began with Hofstadter’ s development of the thallium-activated NaI. A third period has witnessed a veritable renaissance in development of scintillator, prompted by the need for scintillator for precision calorimetry in high energy physics and for high light output scintillator for medical imaging. Properties of sintillators are sumed up, such as transparency , light output, efficiency of output, precise resolution of time, efficiency of detection and sensibility, good energy resolution, X-ray stopping power, primary speed, afterglow, radiation damage, greenhouse effect, material procurability, and so on. A review is presented on scintillator, such as ceramics scintillator, glass scintillator, plastic scintillator. Perspectives and trends on the future development of new scintillator are recommended to substitute single crystals scintillator and scintillation glass with high performance stintillation ceramics.
