【Abstract】 In case of radionuclide intake, it is required to measure radioactivity in the body and assess the internal doseaccurately, in order to provide information for the support of appropriate health treatment. Research on internaldosimetry has been performed for a long time in Department of Health Physics of Japan Atomic Energy ResearchInstitute (JAERI). In 1999, Internal Dosimetry Laboratory and other three laboratories were established in thedepartment to make further progress in the research of health physics. The objects of the research in InternalDosimetry Laboratory are to improve the reliability and accuracy of measurement and evaluation of body activity andinternal dosimetry. We have two major subjects: research on measurement and evaluation of body activity andresearch on internal dosimetry. Through the research, we also aim to establish radiation protection techniques for thehigh intensity proton accelerator, fuel reprocessing plant and so on that are now developed in Japan. The followingstudies are now performed in Internal Dosimetry Laboratory: (1) development of calibration techniques of whole-body counter, (2) development of rapid urine monitoring technique for actinide, (3) characterization ofradionuclides formed at a high-energy accelerator, (4) assessment of specific absorbed fractions using voxelphantoms, and (5) others. This paper describes the ouilines and results of these studies.
