【Abstract】 The carbon coated γ-Fe2O3 nanoparticles(γ-Fe2O3 /C) were synthesized by hydrothermal reaction and applied as solid phase extraction(SPE) sorbents to extract trace polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs) from environmental water samples.The γ-Fe2O3 /C sorbents possess high adsorption capacity and extraction efficiency due to strong adsorption ability of carbon materials and large surface area of nanoparticles.Only 20 mg of sorbents are required to extract PAHs from 100 mL water samples.The recycling time and solution pH have no obvious effect on the recoveries of PAHs.The analytes can be readily eluted with acetonitrile.The accuracy of the method was evaluated by the recoveries of spiked samples.Good recoveries(79.5%-111.2%) are achieved with relative standard deviations from 0.3% to 8.4%.This new SPE method shows a promising prospect on the purification of environmental water samples.The possible mechanism of extraction of γ-Fe2O3 /C to PAHs was preliminarily investigated.
