The grain refinement effect of the typical master alloys on Mg-Li-Al cast alloy

【摘要】 Commercial Al-3Ti-1C and Al-5Ti-1B master alloys with different levels were added into Mg-Li-Al alloys in order to refine the grains.The effects of their addition levels on grain refinement of Mg-Li-Al cast alloy were investigated and the mechanism of the grain refinement was discussed.The result shows that the addition of Al-3Ti-1C master alloy would reduce the grain size of LA141 cast alloy from 900μm to 400μm,while the addition of Al-5Ti-1B master alloy made the grain size of LA51 cast alloy reduced from 500μm to 240 μm.Through comparison experiment and crystallographic calculation,the grain refining mechanism is regarded as the heterogeneity nucleation of TiC and TiB2,because of the less than 10% mismatches of TiC and β-Li and of TiB2 and α-Mg.
