左手介质平板波导模式色散特性分析

【摘要】 本文从麦克斯韦方程组出发,推导了平板波导中的模式色散方程。作出了由普通介质和左手介质构成的对称和非对称四种平板波导中的模式色散曲线。分析了低阶的TE模和TM模在不同波导中的传播特性:对称左手介质波导,衬底和覆层的折射率与芯层折射率越接近,单模传播速率最大时波导参数k0d取值可以越大,这具有很大的应用价值;在覆层和衬底完全相同的情况下,色散曲线的斜率在左手介质波导中远大于普通介质波导;左手介质中,k0d在一定范围内取值时,存在一种新型色散。

【Abstract】 Many applications of the left-handed materials(LHM) have been proposed recently.We use two structure characteristics of slab waveguide to deduce modes-dispersion equations from Maxwell equations.Then we draw dispersion curve through inducing dispersion equation of TE modes and TM modes and changing the parameter of dispersion equation.A graphical method is proposed to analyze the novel properties in the different four waveguides.And we can find that for the symmetric LHM waveguide,if the value of refractive indexes of the LHM and normal materials beside are similar,the value of k0d can be large,and this is very useful in application.And we can find that the propagation constants for TE and TM modes in LHM waveguide are much greater than that in normal waveguide.The most important fact is that when the value of k0d varies in some ranges,there is a novel dispersion.It does not depend on the wave source and the thick-ness of the LHM slab,but only depends on the negative refractive index of LHM.
