【Abstract】 Over the past decades,sociolinguistic studies have gained substantial academic momentum by adopting a multi-dimensional perspective.The spirit of fractious omniscience prevailing in the community of sociolinguistics has led it to an acknowledged and established branch of linguistic studies.Facing a prosperous situation like this,a historic study of this new member in linguistic science has attracted much attention recently.Being part of this practice,the present study aims to provide an innovative perspective to look at relevant issues in the field.Some crucial issues in theorizing and developing are examined.Following this line of argument,Stephen Murray’s new book is introduced and reviewed in the second part of this paper.This review article consists of 5 parts.The first part is a detailed introduction to the field.Issues concerning the theoretic development are elaborated in the second part.Comments on the general arrangements of Murray’s book are made in the third part,while major points of the book are discussed in the fourth part.A couple of closing words forms the last part of our discussion.更多还原
