【Abstract】 We have started the cecropin research since 1978 when Dr.Boman HG visted South China Agricultural Universty.In 1981,Cecropin was induced,isolated and purified from Chinese oak silkworm,Antheraea pernyi.It was demonstrated to have an inhibition of growth to a broad spectrum of bacteria and a selective toxic effect to cancer cells,but safe to normal human cells.In 1987,the cecropin gene was synthesized and expressed in Saccharomyces cerevisiae,Pichia pastoria and Bacillus polymyx.Recombinant cecropin was produced with 5000 IU/ml antibacterial value in 1000 liter fermentation system.The recombinant cecropin is further studied in several applications.First,the recombinant cecropin was selected as new type of veterinary food additives for chicken pig and shrimp as alternate antibiotics. It prevented diseases,increased the survival rate,body weight and decreased the ratio of grain to meal of veterinary food.Second,scorpions was approved as a new drug to treat hepatitis diseases as it may inhibit the DNA replication of beta hepatitis virus in 1996. Third,the cecropin may develop as a new anticancer drug as it has a cytotoxic effect to selectively destroy the cancer cells and inhibits the digest system cancer of mouse.Fourth, as a disinfectant,cecropin can kill fungi Candia albicans and trichomonisis vegina.Fifth, cecrpoin is mixed with cell growth factor and chlorophyllin to produce the cosmetic products. Sixth,bacterial resistant plants were obtained by introducing the cecropin genes into tobacco,tomato,chilli,rice,citrus and mulberry tree.更多还原
