【摘要】 本汉英翻译实践报告材料选自《西南联大二十五讲》第十八讲和第十九讲,作者是云南师范大学吴宝璋教授。第十八讲和第十九讲分别讲述了著名校友吴大猷和华罗庚的人生经历和重大贡献。吴大猷毕生献身物理学研究和教育事业,被誉为“中国物理学之父”。华罗庚作为当代自学成长的科学巨匠和誉满中外的数学家,一生致力于数学研究和发展,被誉为“中国现代数学之父”。两位教授都践行着“刚毅坚卓”的联大校训,为西南联大以及中国教育史上书写下了光辉的篇章。本次翻译实践是在卡特福德的翻译转换理论指导下进行的。卡特福德认为,翻译是寻求原语和译语之间的等值转换。在转换过程中可以适当脱离“形式对等”,着重寻求“语义对等”。卡特福德将翻译转换划分为了层次转换和范畴转换,通过具体的案例分析,译者发现翻译转换理论对于本次翻译实践有较高的普适性,帮助译者在翻译过程中寻找译文的等值成分,解决了词汇、短语和句子等基本方面的翻译难题。本文旨在探讨翻译转换理论对节选源文本的指导性意义,同时传达战时的西南联大教授们刚毅不屈的意志和严谨的学术精神,以两位教授的精神为学习榜样,践行联大精神,在求学道路上砥砺前行。更多还原

【Abstract】 This Chinese-English translation report is based on lecture Eighteen and lecture Nineteen of the book The Twenty-Five Lectures of National Southwest Associated University written by Professor Wu Baozhang from Yunnan Normal University.The two lectures respectively narrate the life experiences and significant contributions of renowned alumni Wu Dayou and Hua Luogeng.Wu Dayou has devoted his life to the research and education of physics and is known as the “Father of Physics in China”.Hua Luogeng,a self-taught mathematician renowned at home and abroad,dedicated his life to the research and development of mathematics and is known as the “Father of Modern Mathematics in China”.They both lived up to the NSAU motto and represented the most magnificent chapter in the history of NSAU and Chinese education.The translator performed this translation practice under the guidance of Catford’s translation shifts theory.Catford states that translation is to seek equivalent conversion between the source language and the target language.Translators should prioritize“semantic equivalence” rather than “formal equivalence” in the translation process.According to Catford,translation shifts can be divided into level shifts and category shifts.Through specific case studies,it can be found that translation shifts theory is highly applicable to the translation practice,which helps the translator find the equivalent components of the translated text in the translation process,and address the translation difficulties at the fundamental level of lexical,phrase and sentence.The purpose of this translation practice is to explore the guiding significance of translation shifts theory for the excerpted source text and to convey the indomitable will and rigorous academic spirit of NSAU professors in wartime.With these two professors as role models,the translator will carry forward the spirit of NSAU and forge ahead in further study through this translation practice.更多还原
