【Abstract】 Education is the most effective and important way to achieve class leap, and family education investment is an important factor affecting children’s academic performance.Compared to other classes, the unstable identity of the middle class, the examination-oriented quality education, the prevalence of "shadow education",and the increasing educational diversion make them pay more attention to children’s education, and show great enthusiasm in investing in family education. However, although family education investment provides students and parents with the opportunity to overtake on a curve,it also presents problems of imbalanced development of family education investment, deviation of investment concepts and goals, increasing the burden on students and parents. Moreover, differences in educational investment among families of different social classes lead to differences in personalized education for children and individual development differences among students, reshaping educational inequality. Therefore, conducting relevant research on the impact of education investment on academic performance by middle-class families is of great significance for understanding the necessity and importance of implementing the "double reduction" policy and helping middle-class parents make rational decisions. This paper uses the 2018 data of the China Family Tracking Survey(CFPS),selects children from middle class families aged 10-15 as the research object, and based on the cultural reproduction theory and the family capital theory, uses regression analysis to empirically study the impact of middle class family education investment on academic performance in the compulsory education stage, and discusses whether there are internal differences in the middle class in its impact, and then verifies the impact of middle class family education investment on education equality,The main conclusions are as follows:Firstly, social class has a significant positive impact on family economic and cultural investment. But for the middle class, family social investment has class commonalities.Secondly, the cultural and social input variables of middle-class families have a significant positive impact on academic performance.Specifically, attending tutoring classes, hiring tutors, frequently discussing school matters with children, and giving up entertainment for children’s learning all have a significant impact on academic performance.Participating in tutoring classes can improve academic performance, while seeking tutoring can lead to a decrease in academic performance. The higher the frequency of discussing school matters with children, the higher their academic performance. The higher the frequency of giving up entertainment for children’s learning, the lower their academic performance.Thirdly, for students from lower middle class families, increasing school education costs is beneficial for improving academic performance, abandoning entertainment for their children’s learning, and ultimately leading to a decrease in academic performance. For students from middle class families, attending tutoring classes is beneficial for improving academic performance, while using tutoring can actually reduce academic performance. For students from upper middle class families, family education investment has no significant impact on the improvement of academic performance.Fourthly, there are significant differences within the middle class in the impact of school education costs and the use of tutoring on academic performance.Fifth, the significant impact of parental education expectations on academic performance and the significant impact of extracurricular tutoring fees on academic performance have been confirmed. However, this article found that for students from middle-class families, the significant impact of parental education expectations and extracurricular tutoring fees on academic performance does not exist.Based on the above findings, this article proposes relevant suggestions from the perspectives of families, schools, and the country,in order to help middle-class parents clarify the impact of family education investment on academic performance, better understand the necessity and importance of the "double reduction" policy, and rationally determine family education investment.
