【摘要】 科尔姆·托宾是当代爱尔兰最重要的作家之一。在过去的三十载中,托宾创作出了众多获得大众和评论界一致好评的小说,如《布鲁克林》、《大师》和《诺拉·韦伯斯特》等。托宾小说中的主题多与我们所谓的爱尔兰性相关——移民、天主教和新教下的身份认同、家庭关系及性别身份,尤其是同性恋身份困惑。托宾认为,作家彰显爱尔兰性的最好方式,是对爱尔兰问题的持续关注。如其所言,在2017年出版的新作《煊赫之家》中,他通过重写古希腊神话中阿伽门农的家族悲剧,表达出他对当代爱尔兰所面临的问题的深切关注。本篇论文旨在揭示托宾在《煊赫之家》中对爱尔兰性的建构。文章由六个章节组成。第一章对科尔姆托宾进行简要介绍,并对《煊赫之家》做文献综述。第二章系统梳理了自爱尔兰文艺复兴以来爱尔兰性的演变过程,并且阐述科尔姆·托宾对爱尔兰性的构想。第三章至第五章是论文的主体部分。从三个方面聚焦于小说中科尔姆·托宾的爱尔兰性建构。第三章分析了同性恋及女性这两大“他者”群体在爱尔兰的生存困境。两者都试图反抗并重建身份认同,但最终仍旧无法摆脱社会环境的束缚。第四章揭示出作者终止爱尔兰暴力的愿景,及小说对北爱尔兰和平进程的指射。第五章关注小说中的两则神话传说,认为这是对爱尔兰历史的解读,尤其是在暗指爱尔兰大饥荒和爱尔兰移民。第六章是论文的结论部分。作为一位当代爱尔兰作家,科尔姆·托宾始终致力于爱尔兰问题的思考,在当代爱尔兰文化与知识话语领域中独树一帜。他在《煊赫之家》中对爱尔兰性的重构,势必为我们理解爱尔兰及爱尔兰人民留下深远的影响。更多还原

【Abstract】 Colm Toibin is one of the most important contemporary Irish writers.Over three decades,Toibin has produced both popular and critically acclaimed novels such as Brooklyn,The Master,and Nora Webster.The themes of his novels are often related to subjects which are associated with Irishness — emigration,identity in terms of Catholicism and Protestantism,a focus on familial relationships,and struggles with sexuality,especially homosexuality.Toibin believes that the best way to highlight Irishness in a writer is being involved with the Irish situation.True to this belief,in his latest novel House of Names published in 2017,he expresses his deep concerns over problems confronting contemporary Ireland by rewriting the ancient Greek family tragedy of Agamemnon.This thesis aims to reveal the Irishness Toibin constructed in House of Names.It consists of six chapters.The first chapter introduces Colm Toibin briefly and provides literature reviews on House of Names.The second chapter systematically combs the evolution of Irishness since Irish Literary Renaissance and expounds upon Colm Toibin’s conception of it.Chapters three to five are the main part of the thesis.They focus on Toibin’s construction of Irishness in the novel from three aspects.Chapter three analyzes the living predicament of the two groups that are considered to be “others” — gays and women in Ireland.Both try to resist and at the same time rebuild their identity,yet cannot break free from the bondage of the social environment in the end.Chapter four reveals the author’s expectation to end the violence in Ireland and the novel’s reference to the peace process in Northern Ireland.Chapter five examines the two legends in the novel,seeing them as an interpretation of the Irish history,especially allusion to the Irish famine and immigration.Chapter six is the conclusion.As a contemporary Irish writer,Colm Toibin has always been devoted to writing about problems in Ireland.This has made him a unique voice in contemporary Irish cultural and intellectual discourse.And his reshaping of Irishness in House of Names will surely leave an enduring mark on our conception of Ireland and its people.更多还原
