【Abstract】 As a literature master in Germany in the 20th century, Walter Benjamin has produced fruitful works in translation studies and made deep and profound influence on the later academic circles. This is especially represented by his article "Die Aufgabe des Ubersetzers" ("The Task of the Translator") published in 1923. So to speak, that article has emerged as a concentrative interpretation of his unique translation idea, regarded as the first voice of deconstructive translation ideas. Like other deconstructionists have tried their efforts to dissolve binary oppositions, who have put the translation text and the original text in an equivalent status, Benjamin has also thought of that. However, he has seemed to stride a little further from the very beginning. In terms of the translation text, it is of much significance to continue the life of the original text. At the same time, every translation in its own language can offer one explanative viewpoint. Then such various viewpoints are combined together so that the essence of the original text can acquire a more complete presentation from its alpha to omega. And moreover, those translation languages also make comparisons with each other, helpful to the original text in its eternal life from constant renewal. This thesis starts with the researches on Benjamin’s transcendental translation viewpoint and language viewpoint and analyzes three important analogies in Benjamin’s work by adopting the method of close reading. Meanwhile, it makes a manifold interpretation of pure language from different angles and extracts from that possibly applicable interpretative principles and translation strategies. Therefore important theoretical as well as practical meaning of Benjamin’s transcendental translation idea to poetry translation get further revealed and strengthened. The main contents of the thesis are roughly divided into three parts. Firstly, the thesis will focus its eye on the characteristics of the real translation from Benjamin’s remarks. From three kinds of contexts, that is, the relationship between content and language, the relationship among various languages and the relationship between the translation text and the original text, the author makes a description about what look the real translation takes on, paving the way for the following analysis. Secondly, it will propose three divergently interpretative principles explained as analogies contained in transcendental translation idea as well as two referable translation strategies. And thirdly, the thesis, after discussing the applicability to poetry translation and making examples, visualizes the realistic significance of Benjamin’s transcendental translation idea in a direct way. The essence of literature lies not in presenting or passing on information. Therefore, from Benjamin’s viewpoint, any translation text, which makes a try to present or pass on information of the original text, grasps the inessential ingredients. It is a bad translation text. Translation does not mean communication among information. Instead, it is more like a course that gets infinitely closer to pure language. By virtue of that statement, Benjamin has raised the task of the translator to a level of language philosophy.Through the painstaking analysis of some key concepts and relationships in Benjamin’s article, the thesis comes to find that although Benjamin’s translation outlook seems to go so further that it may not avoid the criticism of transgressing the acceptable principles, thus no good translation in a traditional sense, if seen from a larger plane of language outlook, Benjamin’s thinking has proceeded from the development of language per se. He has also laid an emphasis on outstanding contribution an excellent translator can do in such aspect. Although his implied interpretative principles and translation strategies deviate to some extent from traditional translation opinions, they all the same show a compatible and developing significance. His stress in word elements and expression of literariness give his transcendental translation idea an even more favorable position to use in poetry translation, giving off brilliant rays of its particular aura.
