关于两种英语冠词二语习得框架的研究

【摘要】 本研究采用强制选择提取任务,选择两个框架对Ionin等人提出的“冠词波动理论”进行验证,旨在深入考察中国英语学习者习得英语冠词语义特征的情况。本研究先对Ionin等人提出的冠词选择参数框架(限定性和特指性)进行了验证。同时,作为对英语冠词二语习得研究的进一步细化,本研究还对Ko等人提出的冠词选择参数框架(特指性和局部性)进行验证。Ionin等认为在普遍语法的框架下,母语没有冠词的二语学习者在习得冠词时,会在限定性和特指性两个语义值之间波动。Ko等认为二语学习者在习得冠词时,会在特指性和局部性两个语义值之间波动,局部性会比特指性更为显著。本实验结果表明,在Ionin等人提出的冠词选择参数框架中,母语为中文的二语英语学习者的冠词参数没有被正确地设置。因此他们的冠词选择在限定性和特指性两个值之间波动。Ionin的理论得到了本研究的支持。在Ko等人提出的冠词选择参数框架中,学习者的冠词选择却没有在特指性和局部性两个值之间波动,学习者倾向于依赖特指性来决定冠词的使用。因此,Ko的理论没有得到本研究的支持。在论文的讨论部分,我们讨论了本研究所涉及的三种冠词语义参数的关系,对参数和各框架的结构之间的联系展开了详细讨论。同时,我们还讨论了“预设”和语义参数之间的潜在联系。最为重要的是,我们讨论了母语为中文的二语英语学习者习得英语冠词语义特征的各种情况,讨论了可能造成中国二语英语学习者冠词选择波动的各种原因,包括母语迁移以及定语从句的影响。
【Abstract】 The present study attempts to look into the problem of resetting parameter values in article choice of Chinese L2 learners of English. We use forced elicitation tasks to test the reliability of Ionin et al.’s (2004) framework and as a more detailed analysis of the acquisition of English article, we test the reliability of Ko et al.’s (2006) framework.Put under Ionin et al.’s (2004) Fluctuation Hypothesis, Ionin et al.’s (2004) framework is concerned with the semantic parameters of definiteness and specificity. Ko et al.’s (2006) framework is concerned with the semantic parameters of partitivity and specificity in indefinite contexts.Statistics in the present paper show that Chinese L2 learners fluctuate between definiteness and specificity. The article choice parameters have not yet been correctly set by Chinese L2 learners. Ionin et al.’s (2004) framework is supported by our study. Statistics in the present paper show that Chinese L2 learners do not fluctuate between partitivity and specificity in indefinite contexts. They tend to rely on specificity to decide the use of a, the reasons of which may include L1 transfer. Thus, Ko et al.’s (2006) framework is not supported by our study.In the discussion chapter, we discuss the relationship between the semantic factors and the two frameworks. The underlying relationship of presupposition, shared set and the semantic factors is also discussed. Most importantly, we discuss the factors which may influence English article choice among Chinese L2 learners, including the L1 transfer effect. The effect of relative clause modification is also discussed in this chapter.
