【摘要】 纵览国内外委婉语的研究历史,中外语言学家主要从修辞、社会、语用、心理等不同角度对委婉语进行分析研究,且大多数研究均着重于某一特定的语言,从跨文化角度进行的对比研究则相对不足。同时,综观国内外对委婉语的研究,不难发现,委婉语的翻译研究这一领域,鲜有人问津。有鉴于此,本文尝试从跨文化层面对英汉委婉语进行系统的对比研究,并结合翻译理论的知识探讨委婉语的翻译问题。本文首先回顾了国内外委婉语的研究历史及现状,并介绍了委婉语的定义,分类；然后从其语言特征对中英委婉语的构成方式(如语音、词汇和修辞)和生成原则(距离原则、关系原则和礼貌原则)及发展规律进行了对比分析；接着讨论了委婉语的交际功能,并从宗教、社会价值观等方面,用具体典型事例对中英委婉语的文化特色做出了系统性的对比分析；同时,在上述对比分析的基础上,就委婉语翻译中出现的难点,提出了相应的翻译策略。最后,文章阐述了中英委婉语的跨文化对比对跨文化交际和外语教学的启示。本研究的成果可以浓缩为以下三点：1)委婉语是一种基于社会交际的语言现象。中英委婉语的构成有诸多相似之处,它们都遵循一定的生成原则,即距离原则、关系原则、礼貌原则。2)委婉语是一种文化现象。中英委婉语的不同表现形式,反射出各自社会背景下的不同的文化价值观念。3)委婉语的英汉互译关键在于做到语言的外延意义和修辞意义的统一。更多还原

【Abstract】 A general review of the history of euphemism research both at home and abroad shows that linguists have already conducted a lot of studies in this field mainly from the perspectives of rhetoric, society, and language use. Most of such studies focus their attention on a particular language. Rare are the studies directed to the euphemism exploration on the basis of cross-cultural angle. What is more, few studies have paid due attention to euphemism translation between Chinese and English. To fill up these two gaps, the thesis makes a contrastive exploration of euphemisms in Chinese and English on a cross-cultural basis, and advances some strategies for the translation of euphemisms between Chinese and English.The thesis first reviews the past and present researches of euphemisms before giving its definition and classification. Then comes a contrastive analysis of euphemisms in the two languages from the perspective of their formation, generating principles and law of development. After that is a discussion on communicative functions of euphemisms by means of a contrastive and systematic analysis in terms of cultural features, including those concerning religion and social values. With that, the thesis moves to another question closely associated with the study, i.e., the difficulties in euphemism translation between Chinese and English. Some translating strategies have been advanced. Finally, the thesis clarifies the main findings of the study and points out the enlightenment drawn from the research for cross-cultural communication and the English language teaching.The major findings of the research can be reduced to the following three points.1) Euphemism is a linguistic phenomenon on the basis of social communication. There are many similarities between euphemisms in Chinese and English. Their formations both follow such rules as the principle of distance, the principle of relation and the principle of pleasantness.2) Euphemism is a cultural phenomenon. The different manifestation of euphemisms in Chinese and English reveals the different cultural values behind the two languages.3) The key to the successful translation between English and Chinese euphemisms lies in the unification of denotative meaning and rhetorical meaning.更多还原
