方东美对华严宗哲学的现代诠释

【摘要】 近代中国的文化危机,客观上促使中国知识分子在西方强势文化的冲击面前,不得不对传统文化进行全面的清理和深刻的反思。希望通过对传统文化的诠释和重构借以彰显其永恒、超越的普适价值。在具体的实践过程中,因为中国传统文化以儒释道为主要内容的特殊性,就使得对儒释道内部的整合与重构成为实现传统文化转型与复兴的一个重要方面。其中突出的表现就是发轫于晚清、滥觞于现代新儒学的“援佛入儒”。由于现代新儒学代表人物方东美其哲学体系是在对华严宗哲学的诠释和吸收的基础上建构完成的。因此他哲学思想里的“援佛入儒”特色更加鲜明。基于此,本文以方东美对华严宗哲学的现代诠释为对象。目的是通过个案的研究,为进一步深化研究方东美、现代新儒学、华严宗哲学以及现代新儒学与佛学的关系提供有益的线索和合理的视角。具体内容包括以下几个方面:绪论部分,是对论文选题的学术背景、研究现状、研究意义及方法和思路的总体概述。第一章,主要是对华严宗哲学精神和方东美哲学精神以及二者相互关系的考察。具体包括华严宗哲学精神、方东美对华严宗哲学精神的肯定和继承以及方东美在新的历史条件下运用现代学术方法,将华严宗哲学精神发展为崭新的理论形态这三方面的内容。第二章,从二者的哲学精神过渡到二者的哲学基础即哲学本体论,并对其相互关系进行考察。具体包括华严宗哲学本体论、方东美站在传统儒学的立场对其展开的诠释和重构这三部分内容。第三章,华严宗是通过判教而立宗;方美是通过判文化而豁显传统文化的精神价值。二者又内在相关,所以这部分就包括华严宗哲学判教论、方东美的判教观和文化判教三部分内容。结语,本文通过哲学精神、哲学本体论和判教论三个视角揭示了方东美对华严宗哲学的诠释概况,从中可以看出方东美自觉的诠释方法及理路脉络。因此,结语部分就以方东美在对华严宗哲学进行诠释过程中所采取的方法,以及诠释活动本身对现代新儒学和华严宗哲学在当代发展的影响为内容,进行概括和总结。

【Abstract】 Modern China’s cultural crisis forces objectively Chinese intellectuals to comprehensively check and deeply reconsider the traditional culture when they are confronted with the impact of western powerful culture. They hope to show traditional culture’s eternal and remarkable pervasive values through the interpretation and reconstruction of it. Because of Chinese traditional culture’s peculiarity which is with Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism as its main contents, when practicing concretely, unifying and reconstructing Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism from the inside becomes an important aspect to realize the traditional culture transition and revival, in which the most outstanding one is "introducing Buddhism into Confucianism" that begins in late Qing Dynasty and origins from modern new Confucianism. Because Thome H. Fang’s philosophical system, who is the representative of modern new Confucianism, is based on the interpretation and absorption of Ganda School’s philosophy, the features of "introducing Buddhism into Confucianism" in his philosophical thoughts are more distinctive. On account of this, this thesis will set Thome H. Fang’s modern interpretation to Ganda School’s philosophy as research object and by the research of individual cases, provide useful clues and reasonable views for further study of Thome H. Fang, modern new Confucianism, Ganda School’s philosophy and the relationship between modern new Confucianism and Buddhism. The content of the thesis is as follows.The introduction is an overall summary of the topic’s academic background, literature review, research significant and methods. The first chapter will mainly discusses the philosophical spirits of Ganda School and Thome H. Fang separately and the relationship between them. Three aspects will be discussed in this chapter, that is, Ganda School’s philosophical spirits, Thome H. Fang’s affirmation and succession to these spirits, and in the new historical conditions, Thome H. Fang’s development of them to a brand-new theoretical ideology. In Chapter Two, the study will transit from Ganda School and Thome H. Fang’s philosophical spirits to their philosophical bases, that is, ontology, and their relationship will also be studied. The main content in this chapter is Ganda School’s ontology, Thome H. Fang’s interpretation and reconstruction of Ganda School’s ontology from the view of traditional Confucianism. Ganda School sets his philosophy by classification; Thome H. Fang shows traditional culture’s spiritual values by culture classification, but they also have internal correlation. Thus, Ganda School’s classification, Thome H. Fang’s view to classification and his cultural classification will be studied in Chapter Three. In Conclusion, this thesis will reveal Thome H. Fang’s interpretation to Ganda School’s philosophy from the angle of philosophical spirits, ontology and classification, from which Thome H. Fang’s self-conscious interpretation methods and theoretical clues will be clearly showed. The methods adopted by Thome H. Fang in the process of interpreting Ganda School’s philosophy and influence caused by Fang’s interpretation itself on the development of modern new Confucianism and Ganda School philosophy in modern times will also be summarized in conclusion part.
