【Abstract】 In translation studies, one of the basic questions is how to describe and regard the translator’s role. Up to now, the translation theorists have never got to a consensus as to the translator’s status in translation. In traditional translation theory, the translator is usually considered the servant who not only serves the author but also the reader. Besides, translation studies are simply divided into two questions: one is how to translate and the other is how to translate well. In such a case, translator’s subjectivity is completely neglected. But deconstructionism, which appeared in the 1960’s, endows the translator with unprecedented subjectivity. This thesis, from the perspective of intertextuality, uncertainty and creativity in deconstructionism, gives a definition of translator’s subjectivity, then analyzes the subjectivity from the above three perspectives and finally gives some elements which can exert great influence on the subjectivity. To sum up, this thesis holds a positive view of deconstructionism that emphasizes translator’s subjectivity. Moreover, deconstructionism offers a totally new way of dealing with translator’s subjectivity and promoting translator’s subjectivity to a greater extent. Although deconstructionism has defects, what provides for translation studies such as translator’s subjectivity in research area should never be ignored. The thesis, based on deconstructionism translation theories, adopts the methods of description, comparison, and illustration to make a detailed study of translator’s subjectivity. The thesis consists of six chapters. It first gives a clear definition of translator’s subjectivity and then has a general review of studies on translator’s subjectivity from the perspectives of traditional and postmodernism theories. Then the thesis introduces deconstructionism theory, which is the theoretical base of the thesis. It introduces deconstructionism translation theories from a number of famous translating theorists, including Derrida, Benjamin, Barthes and Venuti. Chapter three analyzes translator’s subjectivity from the intertextuality angle in deconstructionism. It shows translator’s subjectivity from the visibility of translator. In Chapter Four, the author analyzes the subjectivity from uncertainty in deconstructionism, which includes illustrations of translator’s subjectivity: the task of the translator is to present the difference of source language and source culture. Chapter five first proposes creative treason, and then it explains that the essence of deconstructionism is creativity, and finally it demonstrates creativity as the basic feature of translator’s subjectivity. Finally, the concluding part, summarizes findings and limitations from deconstructionism theory and proposes further studies.
