【Abstract】 With the increasing of naval architectures installed in deep sea, the traditional gravity type breakwaters have been proved to be inefficient. from the viewpoint of economic cost and technical complexity. To overcome this challenge, a new type breakwater consisting of plate system has been pointed out as a substitute. This type breakwater can be constructed fast with low cost and be little affected by water depth and geological conditions. Since it can permit water exchange around plate and the water quality can be maintained. By using of boundary element method, the hydrodynamic study of this plate type breakwater with different configurations has been investigated. The transmitted and reflected wave coefficients, added mass, damping coefficient and wave forces are discussed. It is found that:(1) Both’——’type and’(?)’type surface plates are efficient for short wave elimination. However, the’——’type is better than the’(?)’type.(2) Both’——’type and’(?)’type submerged plates are efficient for long wave and intermediate wave elimination. But the’——’type is better than the’(?)’type.(3) The’||’type surface plate is more effective for shot wave elimination. The’||’type and ’/ \’ type submerged plate are inefficient for wave elimination.(4) Adjusting the plate distance will increase wave elimination and decrease wave exciting force.
