约翰·邓恩及其民主研究

John Dunn and His Democracy Study

【摘要】 在今天的政治语汇中,民主是人们最为熟悉的一个词语。民主也主宰着当代的政治话语。拥有民主意味着拥有政治合法性。本文探究邓恩民主研究中的一些方面,介绍他提出的有关今天民主的一些问题,以及邓恩对民主的理解,以便反映出民主的真正含义。本文共分五章,共计三万余字。第一章,约翰·邓恩和剑桥学派。一方面介绍邓恩的学术生涯和他的相关著作。另一方面介绍剑桥学派的特点。第二章,基于邓恩从古代雅典城邦到现代世界的民主历史的叙述,本章介绍邓恩的民主思想史,以及民主的思想史给我们的启示。另外从民主的历史中,我们能够获得关于民主怎样的新理解。第三章,关于民主为何赢得胜利这个问题,本章将分析邓恩对一些流行观点非常具有说服力的拒绝和批评,以及邓恩对民主赢得胜利给出的惊人答案是如何增进我们对民主的理解的。第四章,通过介绍邓恩对四种类型民主体制的研究,这四种民主体制分别是:资本主义民主、非洲民主、民主社会主义和极权主义民主。本章试图分析在不同类型民主与民主在今天的主宰地位之间的关系。第五章,将根据适当的理论和现实意义来评价邓恩对民主理论的贡献。本论文的目的有三个:其一,介绍邓恩的民主思想史。其二,介绍剑桥学派的特点以及该特点在邓恩作品中的体现。其三,深刻领会邓恩对民主问题的现实关怀。

【Abstract】 Democracy is the most well-known word in today’s political vocabularies. It also dominates political discourse of contemporary world. Being democratic means having the political legitimacy. This thesis is to explore some aspects in John Dunn’s studies on democracy in order to reflect on what democracy really means.This thesis is structured five chapters, totaled thirty thousands words.The first chaper, John Dunn and Cambridge School. One side introduce Dunn’s learning life and his interrelated bookmaking. on the other side introduce the characteristic of Cambridge School. The second chapter, based on Dunn’s narrative of the history of democracy from the ancient Athenian polis to the modern world, this chapter introduce Dunn’s intellectual history of democracy, and this chapter is to explore what the journey of democracy would reveal to us and what new understanding we can gain about democracy from its history. The third chapter, in response to the question of why democracy wins, the paper will examine Dunn’s compelling rejection and criticism on some popular views and how his provocative answer could further our understanding of democracy. The forth chapter, by introducing Dunn’s analysis on four types of democracy, these democracy are capitalist democracy, African democracy, democratic socialism and totalitarian democracy. This chapter wants to examine the relations between different types of democracy and democracy’s predominant position today .The fifth chapter, this chapter will evaluate on Dunn’s contribution to democracy theory in terms of both theoretical adequacy and practical implication.There are three main goals in this thesis: first, introduce Dunn’s intellectual history of democracy. Second, introduce the characteristic of Cambridge School and this characteristic incarnate in Dunn’s bookmaking. Third, grasp Dunn’s study in practical implication.
