车牌照定位和分割算法的研究

【摘要】 车辆牌照识别系统的研制与开发,成为现代化交通发展的热点问题,也是影响交通系统智能化、现代化的重要因素。而车牌照的定位和分割是其中最为关键的技术之一,它是字符分割和识别的基础,对整个系统的性能起着至关重要的作用。本文就是针对车牌照的定位和分割这一关键问题,在广泛分析、比较已有方法的基础上,总结出一种综合边缘检测和迭代阈值法的算法,然后用此算法对图像进行二值化处理,并且在改进了传统的投影法的基础上实现了车牌的定位分割。实验结果表明:本文实验方法更加有效和准确,它的好处是既保留了车牌区的边缘又使车牌区最大程度的区别于背景。它对于拍摄的静态车辆图像的处理效果比较明显,适合于应用在诸如停车场、收费站等场所。本文对车牌照的定位和分割做了一些研究工作,但距工程实际应用还有一定差距,将来需要进一步研究和完善。

【Abstract】 The research and development on vehicle license plate recognitionsystem are hot topics in modern traffic development and also areimportant elements determining the intelligentization and modernizationof traffic system.The location and segmentation of vehicle license plateis one of the most pivotal technology in the recognition system.It isa base of character segmentation and recognition and it plays a crucialrole in the performance of the whole system.Towards this pivotal question,this paper summarizes an algorithmintegrating edge detection and iterative thresholding,based onextensive analyses and comparison of the existing algorithms.Then thealgorithm is used to binarize the image.Furthermore,on the base ofimprovement towards the traditional projection,the location andsegmentation of vehicle license plate is realized.The experimental results indicate that the experimental algorithmin this paper is more effective and more precise.It has the advantagethat this algorithm remains the edge of the license plate and makeslicense plate different from the background as possible as it can.Thereis a more evident result when it is used to process the image of staticvehicles.So it is fit for being applied to the locations such as car-parksand toll-stations.In this paper,some researches about the location and segmentationof vehicle license plate have been done.But there still is a long wayfor them to go before being applied to practical applications.They needto be further studied and improved in the future.
